Thermomix NUTELLA Hot Cross Buns

I am NOT a food blogger. I repeat. I am NOT a food blogger. But I had to document this journey through my first bread baking experience – Nutella HOT CROSS BUNS.

Oh yes. I had the idea that I would make these instead of getting people eggs for Easter… so here I go!

This recipe is from Thermomix and you can find it here.

Step 1 – Combine the dough ingredients below by mixing 30 seconds speed 3 then knead for 8 minutes.

  • 275 grams water, Room temp
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 5 tsp dried yeast
  • 550 grams bakers flour
  • 60 grams raw sugar
  • 2 tsp bread improver
  • 2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 2 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 50 gram Butter, at room temp

Once you have a nice dough then cover it in cling wrap and set it somewhere warm to rise for 20 mins.

Step 2 – Knock the dough back down after it has risen and knead into 12 even balls.

Step 3 – Now for the fun part if you are a patient and gentle person, which I am not. Gently add a teaspoon of Nutella into the middle of your dough, then close it up by pinching it all together and replace on your baking tray on the flipped side. Kind of felt like I was making Nutella dumplings… mmm… dumplings.  One you have Nutellad all your babies then put the tray into a warm spot for 2o minutes so they can rise and turn on your oven to 180 degrees while you move onto the glazing…

Step 4 – The stuff for the piping.

5 tablespoons of plain flour

6 table spoons water

mix 40 seconds speed 3 and then put in a piping bag.

This is where the piping went kinda wrong….. (except for this one).

Step 5 – bake for 15 minutes then add the glaze when they come out of the oven which is… 3 minutes on Varoma!

  • 3 tbsp raw sugar
  • 3 tbsp water

And then….. the buns!!!!!!! IMG_20150315_132947[1] IMG_20150315_132314[1]

Tips! They are BIGGER than they look! And they prolly could have cooked for a wee bit longer!
