When I tell people I run or do triathlon they look kinda surprised. Because sometimes I become ‘Trashleigh’. (Trashleigh is Ashleigh at a party when in ‘the mood’. She does not behave like a fit healthy person, although she is fun. She is known to dance like an ABBA impersonator, make hundreds of new friends and walk out of bars with a full wine glass in tow for the onward journey home).
Besides the incidence of ‘Trashleigh’ I also think I don’t look like one of those ultra skinny athlete type people.
I am not athletic. I STRUGGLE INSIDE. EVERY. SINGLE.STEP.
But I do it because I LOVE the feeling, the community, the structure and the over the finish line ‘buzz’, even though I am super slow.
I live between the two worlds.
Of ‘Trashleigh‘ and ‘Athletic Ashleigh‘.
As I train for another half marathon it turns out that I have started ‘the feeding‘ and instigated ‘the drink and run reward system’.
If you do not know what ‘the feeding’ means then lookey over here. I am not alone.
The ‘feeding’ means that because I am now running again that I can eat and drink EVERYTHING IN THE WHOLE OF THE LAND.
BECAUSE 1 HOUR RUN = 12 HOURS OF FOOD.
I have also managed to ‘schedule’ my drinking nights around my ‘running’ plan and reward system.
It goes something like this. If you ARE losing weight you might want to try this at home instead!
Monday – A hungover day (for Trashleigh. For the Athlete this is a designated “short run day“.)
Tuesday– A non drinking day (although this week I slipped and had 3 wines.) Tuesday is also Pilates day (but this happens before the wine.)
Wednesday- Running at night. No wine till after 8pm. At such time I am in a rush for bed and am saved by my nanna like sleeping schedule. I sadly do not have time for wine on this day. Phew.
Thursday – Designated heavy booze day for Trashleigh. Also yoga day. (Yoga occurs before drinking.)
Friday – Hungover day. Perhaps another Pilates session or a swim (if the hangover is light.)
NO DRINKING on a Friday because tomorrow is…
Saturday – Long run day …and then ‘the feeding’ begins..
Saturday PM- REWARD YOURSELF FOR YOUR LONG RUN. EAT AND DRINK AS MUCH AS YOU CAN!!!! TRASHLEIGH IS FREE!
Sunday – ANOTHER REWARD DAY. BECAUSE YOU DESERVE IT. RIGHT?
YOU RAN SO FAR YESTERDAY!! (SOOOOO FAR.) EAT AND DRINK AS MUCH AS YOU CAN!
(Athlete Ashleigh would swim or cycle here.)
And so I am at that time in my running program that I think I need to be less ‘Trashleigh’ and more ‘Athlete’.
I want to:
A. Get my goal time and
B. Buy new (skinny) jeans.
What do I do here folks…. another detox?
Or do I sign up for a triathlon to make every day a non Trashleigh day?
